Valentine’s Week, which brings romance and love, is soon coming. For those who celebrate Valentine’s Week, every day has special meaning. Every day of the festivities, which begin on February 7 and go through February 14, represents various expressions of love.

Who Was Saint Valentine?

Saint Valentine was an ancient Roman priest during Emperor Claudius II’s reign. The emperor prohibited young men from marrying because he believed that single men were better soldiers. Valentine ignored the decision and continued to perform secret marriages for young loves. On February 14, around 269 AD, he was put in prison after his deeds were revealed and then put to death. The custom is supposed to have started when he wrote a passionate letter to his jailer’s daughter before he passed away, penning it “Your Valentine.”

As time went on, Valentine’s Day became a festival of romance and love, with people using cards, presents, and sincere actions to show their love.

Why Do We Celebrate Love in February?

The date of Valentine’s Day is thought to be related to Lupercalia, an ancient Roman festival held in mid-February to celebrate fertility and the arrival of spring. Later, February 14 was declared Saint Valentine’s Day by the Christian church, bringing it with romance and love.
